23/09/12: Prairies to the Black Hills

Today we started before the sun rose on the prairie, and finished with the sun well set beyond the Black Hills.

And we are shagged. Sorry listeners, but no piccies tonite.

We took in the lowlands around Pierre, zoomed into the Badlands (why Badlands? They probably did not do what they were told and got sent to a very flat and cold place. A place that also has Nuclear Missiles).

Along the way we pulled into Wall (yes, it is the name of a town) for lunch and shopping at the Wall Drug.

Later we landed in Keystone and zipped up the mountain to check out some Presidents frozen in granite and time: most impressive. This evening was filled with a visit to an even grander project, the Crazy House Memorial...mind-blowing in its scope.

Tomorrow promises to be another long one. We go further into the wild west to overnight in Cody. If we get there in good time and shape, we'll post more pictures.

  1. Tip your hat and smile if you run into Wild Bill Hickock!!

  2. I meant to ask if you'd bumped into Doris Day aka Calamity Jane singing as she wended her way through the black hills of Dakota?

  3. We saw Calamity Jane and Wild Bill standing very, very still in Wall (what an odd name for a town). On the other hand, Wild Bill was shot playing cards just up the road (at Deadwood, a town we sadly do not get to see).

If we see Al Swearingen, we will definitely buy him a beer!
