13/09/12: Last night in New York

Today was  our final day in New York: tomorrow we start the touring.

First up, we took the advantage of free laundry access…mundane I know, but we’ve found we prefer more clean clothes in our bags than dirty ones. Besides, mum always said to make sure you’ve got clean underwear whenever you head out…too much information? OK, I’ll stop there.

Undies dry (sort of) we set out for Macys, via Penn Station. Macys is sort of like Myer or Harrods, but does not quite satisfy the swanky factor. We made an attempt on the Empire State Building, but were thwarted by the line-ups. I dragged Deb into B&H Photo – a camera store quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen before…I was in geek heaven. Restraint did not come easily.

After a spell we found our way to the Rockerfeller Center. “Top of the Rock” is not quite as well known as the Empire State, but it has awesome views nevertheless (even if a bit hazy).

After the Rock, our dinner bells rang out loud so we found a nice Italian place for some pasta.

New York is, without a doubt, an extroverted, exciting place. There is colour and movement everywhere with something new and interesting to see around every corner. Getting around on foot is easy, but the crowds can make it tough going at times. You can hear English, Spanish, Italian and a variety of other languages being spoken, and you will see just about every walk of life wherever you go. An amazing place to visit but I don't know if I could live here.

Now we are back in the hotel, getting ready put our weary feet up. Tomorrow is an early start heading to Philadelphia before pushing onto Washington DC for a couple of days.

  1. You're looking good you two. Loving your blog. I told Randall, my ex about it...and he envies you both being there in NY. He loved living in New York...and the city still holds a special place in his heart.
