21-22/09/12: Minneapolis and the road to Pierre
No post yesterday – late night on the river (dinner cruise) followed by an early start this morning (22nd).
Yesterday had us touring Minneapolis and its sister city of St Paul. One of our stops after looking through the older suburbs (some amazing houses out there) was St Pauls Cathedral:
The rest of the day was spent here…
…at least for Deb. Not many shops for me, so I wandered back to the hotel…to do the laundry.
We ended the day with a cruise and dinner:
Minneapolis is a really likeable place…but it is not winter and we are both certain the story would change with the cold. For a major city, traffic is remarkably settled and the pace is much slower than Chicago. Unlike New York, this is a city that does sleep.
Fast-forward to this morning and we piled on the bus to head west. With 470+ miles, there were not to many stops to make. Lunch had us pull into a Walmart (but we did not see anything like this).
An hour and a half later we pulled into a spot for afternoon tea to be confronted with this…
…the mighty Missouri River.
We pressed on to arrive in Pierre a little after six in the evening, ending our trip from Minnesota to South Dakota.
Tomorrow we are on the way again, heading for Keystone by way of the Badlands and Mt Rushmore.
A parting thought: cheese in a spray-can really exists. Neither us can understand why.
